  • at home...

I have struggled to know what it means to "be home"...even in California I struggled.  Is the Cinnabar house my home?  Is the Rhorer House in Indiana my home?  And now for the first time, I struggle in Bangkok.  I feel at home here.  I still wish I knew how to read and write and grapple with my own small vocabulary, but time with family is sweet and relationships with ministry partners is easy and refreshing to my soul.  I'm blessed to make my "home" wherever the Lord leads me.

Here's my team at orientation doing musical chairs.

and of course, the Human Knot.

Dream team...being silly.  Trek directors are the bomb.

I arrived to Klong Toei and to my surprise, Baan Chivit Mai got a Paint Job.  yes, it's bright!

    :)

    the sound of rain

I've been living in California now for 9 months or so.  The weather there is great.  It's sunny and breezy most days.  I realized today that I have missed the sound of rain.

It's rainy season here in Thailand.  This means that it's wicked hot during the day and then for about an hour or so every evening it rains like mad.  I got caught in it last night and tonight I listened to it pound the roof and drip down the gutters.

Things are quiet and peaceful.  It's 7:30pm and I've had a good dinner made by ladies at the corner shop.  The fan was blowing and the smells were strong.  Now I'm back at the Alliance Guesthouse to work on some talks and rest before the other Asia Trek Directors arrive to the airport and join me in Bangkok.

much love to you from this side of the world.  :)

    Leaving on a Jet Plane.

I feel like I have that as the title of a blog entry pretty often.  Probably because I LOVE that song and I travel quite a bit.  :)

I had a great exit from the States as I enter into the summer season of Trek.

On Thursday we threw a birthday party for Jess in Oakland.  Great fun!

Friday, my San Jo Peeps got together for prayer and then GAMES! + BSG.

Julie was also there, but not pictured here.  :)

Then Saturday was Cinnabar House lunch out!

Followed by shaved ice as big as your head!

    Tasty.

Then I said goodbye to Robyn at the Oakland airport.

About 20+ hours later, I arrived in Bangkok, Thailand.

I watched a lot of bags go around...sadly, none of them were mine.

Hoping my bag gets here tomorrow.

It's hot and sticky here, just as I remember it.

The guy who sells noodles on the corner recognizes me and gives me the usual.

Strangely, this too feels like home to me.

  • I've made it to LAX.  It's been a great time of closure in San Jose.  Now it's on to Bangkok.

    17 hours on Thai Airways...here I come!

Bangkok arrival: 4pm Sunday (Pacific Time)

to blog or not to blog

Most of my readers happen to also be on facebook now.  I post ALL pics there and life has gotten a little too interesting and full to post my random thoughts very often.

Let me know if you are some of the few Blog, non-Facebook types that enjoy this medium for keeping up with me.  I can only think of Marcus at this point.  :)

Departing for the GUT in 4 days!!  Oh My!
